Is Kennesaw State Football Becoming a Powerhouse?

Story back dated from November 2018.
For those of you that might not know I earned my undergrad at Kennesaw State University, just about 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta and 10 miles north of SunTrust Park where the Atlanta Braves play. I do not normally write about my alma mater, but right now they are worth the write. It was just 4 short years ago that Kennesaw State University football was born. Coach Brian Bohannon who played wide receiver at the University of Georgia, also has been position coach at Navy, Georgia Southern, and Georgia Tech, is the first head coach in Kennesaw State’s history. Bohannon has brought the fire to this team and brought along the spread option offensive scheme that no team in the FCS seems to have figured out yet. In 4 years the Owls have had 4 winning seasons and compiled a record of 35-11 (.761).

In 2017 the Owls won the Big South Conference and lost to North Dakota State in the FCS quarterfinal round. This year the 2018 season, the Owls have won the Big South Conference for the second straight year where they ran away with big wins in all their games so far except for two. The opening game vs Georgia State was a lost 21-24 and this last game vs Jacksonville State at SunTrust Park where the Owls won in 5 OTs 60-52. With the win the Owls get a first round bye in the FCS playoffs which begins this weekend. The Owls have earned the right to host a semifinal game at their home stadium, not at Suntrust Park… though that would be nice. The Owls entered the Jacksonville State game ranked #2 in the FCS polls and current are 10-1 after last Saturday’s win and the #4 seed in this year’s FCS playoffs. Time will only tell what happens with this team in the future. But a powerhouse football program could be brewing in Kennesaw, Georgia.
