When I think of the Atlanta Braves, the first name that comes to my mind is Hall of Fame and former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox. He is one of the faces of the Atlanta Braves. I woke up early Wednesday morning to the news that Cox was hospitalized with an apparent stroke. Word has not come out saying it was a stroke, but for right now I will just go with Cox having a stroke. The family wanted everyone to respect their privacy and that is what has been done. But social media was flooded with sending out well wishes and prayers for the beloved former manager and his family.
Talking about the Braves is very special for me because this is where my grandfather and I would sit and talk for hours while we watched the games. And Cox was manager for most of those years. For a very long time he was the only manager that I knew. To me, it just wasn’t the same after Cox retired and Fredi Gonzalez took the realm. But now with Brian Snitker as manager, Cox seems to be around the team on a regular basis, even on the field for Tuesday night’s game calling to “Lets play ball!!!” Snitker has been in the Braves organization for 25 plus years, mostly under Cox.
What sent chills down my back is the Braves won Wednesday’s game versus the Chicago Cubs 6-4 . The ironic part is, the team scored the 6th run in the 6th inning and Cox’s retired number is 6. That was pretty nice.
I posted on twitter Wednesday that I want the Braves to win the rest of the home series for Cox and so far that has held up sweeping the Cubs 8-0, 6-4, and 9-4. Braves (3-3) host the Miami Marlins(2-5) for a weekend series that begins tonight at SunTrust Park.
Lets go out and win the rest of the games on this homestand for skipper. You are in my prayers Bobby!!! #AtlantaBraves #ChopOn
Bobby Cox is still the face of the Braves and he is all in our hearts and prayers during this time. #ChopOn #AtlantaBraves
