It was way back on July 18, 1897 that Chicago White Stockings (later changed to Chicago Cubs) first baseman Hall of Famer Adrian “Cap” Anson, was the first player in baseball history to record 3,000 hits. Anson was born on April 17, 1852 in Marshalltown, Iowa and died on April 14, 1922 at age 69 in Chicago.
Anson made his MLB debut on May 6, 1871 for the Rockford Forest Citys and his last MLB debut was October 3, 1897 for the Chicago Colts. Anson was a player/manager during his MLB career.
During Anson’s MLB career he batted .334 with 97 home runs and 2,075 runs batted in. He also ended his career with 3,435 hits.
