On June 27, 1990, Oakland Athletics RF Jose Canseco signs a record 1-year $4.7 million contract. Canseco, went on to hit 462 homeruns with a batting average of .263 in his 19-year career.

In current year 2019, the Philadelphia Phillies signed free agent Bryce Harper to the largest contract in Major League Baseball history, a 13-year, $330 million contact. Currently on this day, June 27, 2019, Harper is batting .246 with 13 HR and 54 RBIs. In his 8-year career so far, Harper has 197 homeruns and a batting average of .276. Only time will tell what his final numbers will be like.

So in comparison you can see how time has changed. In 1990 Canseco signed a record one year deal worth $4.7million, and in 2019 Harper’s one year deal is $25 million every year for 13 years.
