Well, I have to say the World Series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals was everything I wanted in the fall classic. The road team won every game in the series, which I have never seen before and maybe never have happened in the history on major league baseball. I thought for sure that the Astros had game seven won with how starting pitcher Zack Greinke was pitching. Greinke was rolling into the seventh inning when he gave up a homerun. He left the game in the seventh inning and the Astros were done at that time. Astros relief pitching did nothing to help their cause of winning the Astros second World Series title in as many years. The Astros relief pitching ended giving up five more runs as the Nationals won 6-2 and captured their first World Series as an organization that dates back to the years as the Montreal Expos. I was happy for the Bryce Harper-less Nationals, then sad for my Braves who will hear about this all the way until the Braves capture another baseball title. This also goes to show you that you do not have to win the division to earn the title. The team just has to be clicking on all cylinders and be the hot team as the playoffs begin. The Braves won the east with a record of 97-65 and then got ousted out of the playoffs by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals ended the season four games behind the Braves in the NL East with a record of 93-69. The miraculous thing about the Nationals this year was that their season seemed all but done in May as they had a record of 19-31, then went on a tear the rest of the regular season going 74-38 the rest of the way. The Braves held serve in the East because the had a nine game lead and seemed to hold steady the rest of the way.
I always get a little sad when the final out of any Wold Series happens because I know that’s the end of the season until the following February once Spring Training kicks into gear.
So I am writing this post on Thursday, October 31, 2019 on Halloween day, and it’s a little scary to think with the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta United seasons done, and the Atlanta Falcons sitting at 1-7 and basically done as well, my hopes rely on the Atlanta Hawks and UGA Football to bring the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia a championship. I can all but say Atlanta and the state of Georgia will not earn a championship trophy this season. As I always say, “Here’s to next year folks.”
