Well, I lied folks, this is an Atlanta Falcons (4-9) story. But it is not about a particular game because that doesn’t matter anymore. It is about a personnel move. With three games left the Falcons are out of the playoffs and are just now playing out the rest of their games, but they are going to do so without their number two wideout Calvin Ridley. Ridley suffered an apparent abdominal injury in Sunday’s 40-20 win over NFC rival Carolina Panthers (5-8) at the Mercedes Benz Stadium right down the 75/85 connector from where I live. Ridley is lost for the remainder of the season. It wasn’t determined what type of abdominal injury he suffered, that was not disclosed. But with Ridley done for the season this is going to open up some more opportunities for the younger wide receivers such as Russell Gage, Jr., Christian Blake, and Olamide Zaccheaus. So here’s a question. Who holds the longest pass/catch touchdown with QB Matt Ryan? It must be WR Julio Jones or retired WR Roddy White? Nope…it actually happened in the game yesterday where Ryan hooked up with Zaccheaus for a 94-yard touchdown pass. See the video below.
For the next three games at San Francisco 49ers, home versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, and closing out the season at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, look for these two wide receivers to get plenty of looks from Ryan. This will be a good chance for these three players to get playing time to see if they will be on the 2020 Falcons roster hoping to get more playing time.
