In a trade that was all about when, not if it was going to happen took place on last Sunday. The next question where was WR Julio Jones going to land? All those questions came to be as the Tennessee Titans agreed to take Jones. In return, the Falcons will receive the Titans 2022 second-round draft pick along with fourth and sixth round pick in 2023.
Jones ends his Falcons’ tenure atop Atlanta’s receiving core compiling 12,896 yards, 60 touchdowns, and two, first team all-pro honors.
Jones was so close to a Super Bowl victory in 2016. Jury is still out if Jones gets his ring with the Titans. Even with Jones, Tennessee not expected to win the crown, but Vegas seems that the team is a lot closer with him.
Jones, 32-years old, missed nine games last year due to foot injures. Some believe he is on the back end of his career. Time will only tell if that’s the case.
The Falcons are expected to save 15 million dollars from the trade because that is what the Falcons’ owed Jones this year. Before the Jones trade, the Falcons were $500,000 over the $185 million salary cap. Financial numbers have not come out yet for both teams after the trade.
If the 2021 season were to begin today, the starting wide receivers/tight ends would be: 1. WR Calvin Ridley 2. TE Kyle Pitts, 3. WR Russell Gage, 4. TE Hayden Hurst. Still not a bad receiving core, though Pitts has all the tools, just not proven as he’s still a rookie and hasn’t touched an NFL field yet.
