After losing game three of the semi conference playoff game to the Sixers last Friday night at State Farm Arena, and falling in the series 1-2, the Hawks needed a spark on Sunday’s game played in Atlanta. It didn’t start well as the team fell behind early in the first quarter by 10 points. Point Guard Trae Young had a shoulder injury with his right shoulder taped, that apparently no one knew about, including Coach Nate McMillan. Young started the game missing everything he shot, but later did settle down to garner 25 points, four rebounds, and 18 assists. The most impressive part to me in Young’s game is his assists each game. He’s always in the 15-20 assists category, always helping his fellow teammates score. But still has the ability to put up 40 points himself. The Hawks were down 49-62 at halftime, and this was about the time where I thought that it was over. But I also need to breath and settle down. It’s not how you start a game, but how you finish. If you finish stronger than the opposing team, more than likely you will win. That’s exactly what happened. After not showing up in the first series against the NY Knicks, and not showing up this series so far against the Sixers, Forward John Collins finally put it together in the second half of game four. Collins put up 14 points, but grabbed 12 rebounds that cost the Sixers possessions. This is exactly what the team needed. Between Collins and Center Clint Capela, they brought down 25 rebounds together. That’s 25 possessions lost by Philadelphia.

The Hawks tied the game late at 91, and at that point the game went back and forth. To help with this comeback, all five starters had double digits in points. With less than a minute left in the game and the Hawks up by three, the Sixers had the ball. At this point the game was almost over. Shot clock off and Hawks no need to foul. At best the Sixers could tie game with a 3-pointer and then overtime play. But not need to be. Hawks didn’t foul and as ball sailed beyond the the 3-point line and banged against the rim, this writer turned fan could breath again. Hawks win 103-100.
