The biggest game of the year so far this college season will be played Saturday between the hedges as the #3 and defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs host the #1 Tennessee Volunteers. According to the AP Poll, Georgia is still listed as the #1 and Tennessee is #3. But this time of year we all know that poll doesn’t matter because the College Football Playoff poll (CFP) is the only poll that matters. But this is the first time I can remember that the #1 team from both polls will face off. Whichever team wins will be the outright #1 in both polls.
This will be the #1 ranked defense in Georgia facing the #1 offense in Tennessee. History has it that defenses usually win games, but if this game comes down to scoring points, Tennessee en route for the win. If it comes down to a low scoring game, then Georgia is en route for the victory.
Rivalry By the Numbers
Georgia leads the all-time series 26-23-2 with a 41-17 win last year at Rocky Top. Georgia is on a 5-0 run since 2016-present. Tennessee holds the longest win streak at 9-0 dating from 1989-1999. The largest victory dates back in 1936 when Tennessee beat Georgia 46-0.
Next Game
#1 Tennessee Volunteers (4-0 SEC East; 8-0 Overall) travel to Athens, Ga to play the #3 Georgia Bulldogs (5-0 SEC East; 8-0 Overall). Kickoff set for 3:30PM EST on CBS.
