I posted a post on both (X) and Facebook last night during the 2-10 lost of the Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies game just stating the facts that I believe. I do believe politics, financials, and Vegas play a key role in all of sports, and it showed last night in Philadelphia. But let’s go back to when the stage was set in game two in Atlanta. The Braves had soared back from being down 4-0, then 4-1. Catcher Travis d’Arnaud and 3B Austin Riley both hit two-run homers and the Braves took the lead 5-4 going into the top of the ninth inning. We all know what happened next. Braves earn the W!!!
After the game in the clubhouse, raw excitement for the win, Braves SS Orlando Arcia said “At a boy Harper” for the base blunder that led to the Braves win. No bad will towards Harper, just happiness from the mouth of Arcia. But Philly media and Philly fans, the great sports town that we know they are, “cough, cough” had to blow this all out of portion. And because of that, the writing was on the wall for Braves to lose game three. Sports are all about money and TV ratings, and they were going to eat this up.
Now could the Braves have played better, of course. But it’s over and the team has to regroup, refocus and come out tonight with their (A) game to tie the series and bring it back to Atlanta for a game five.
Since the Los Angeles Dodgers got swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the 6:07pm start time for Game 4 has been pushed back to 8:07pm first pitch.
On the bump for the Braves is 20-game winner Spencer Strider, who lost game one. On the hill for the Phillies is Ranger Suarez.
Braves are in the same situation this year as they were last year, down 1-2 to the Phillies and facing elimination. Number 99 for the Braves needs to be Ricky ‘Wild Thing’ Vaughn for tonight’s game.
Next Game
Atlanta Braves (1-2) at Philadelphia Phillies (2-1); Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA; 8:07pm; TBS; Sports radio, 680 The Fan (Atlanta)
