Falcons dominate Bills

It was perfect weather for a Sunday night game in Atlanta as the Atlanta Falcons hosted the Buffalo Bills. The game started off fast as the Falcons received the ball first and drove down with QB Michael Penix, Jr. taking command of the first drive as he moved the ball around to RB Bijan Robinson, WR Drake London, and finally to RB Tyler Allgeier as he ran in a for the first score of the game, 7-0 Dirty Birds. The Bills then took the ball as QB Josh Allen took control of his offense and drove the length of the field to put up another touchdown, tie score at seven. It was looking like this game was going to be a shoutout, but then one team took off and the other team cooled off. I’ll let you decide which team did what.

Normally it’s the Falcons that cool off and go into hibernation, but on this night it was the Falcons that soared. The no. 1 total defense Atlanta Falcons, yes, I said Atlanta Falcons, dominated Allen and the Buffalo offense, only allowing Allen 180 passing yards. The Falcons are only allowing quarterbacks an average of 139.4 passing yards a game, and 114 rushing yards a game. Versus the Bills last Monday night, the Falcons intercepted the ball two times, the last interception coming with 24 seconds left as Allen was trying to drive team to score, but failed with the interception to close the game and the win for the Falcons. And the Falcons actually have a pass rush this year, through five games they have sacked the QBs seven times for a total of 59 yards lost from the line of scrimmage. Just hoping this keeps up.

Offense

The offense has come to play this season, minus the Carolina Panthers game where the Falcons put up nada, no points. Can’t talk about the Falcons offense without mentioning RB Bijan Robinson first. This past game versus the Bills, he put up 238 total yards, 170 on the ground which included a career long 81-yard TD run. QB1 Penix is continuing to throw darts, just pinpointing where the receivers will be and the catch the ball. Receiver Drake London had 158 yards and one TD, could have been two but stepped out of bounds just before he hit the endzone. The Falcons so far this season are no.2 in overall offense averaging 378.8 total yards a game, 270.3 by air, and 151.2 by ground. A lot of the ground game comes from Robinson, but RB Tyler Allgeier takes it to another level scoring TDs when the team is in the redzone.

It’s been a long time since the Falcons put together a good game and beat a team by double digits. The Falcons beat the Bills 24-14 to improve to 3-2. But the issue with this team is the consistency. Year after year they are up and down. Last year under QB Kirk Cousins before he got injured again, the Falcons were 6-3, and ended the season missing the playoffs again with a record of 8-9. In 2024, this team didn’t have eye dropping stats as this year. So putting it all together for the 2025 season is the goal for now and the rest of the season. Hopfully a long winning streak.

The Falcons (3-2) travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers (4-2) on Sunday Night Football. Game time is 8:15 est on NBC.
