Rams select QB Stetson Bennett in Fourth round

Georgia QB Stetson Bennett wins 2nd straight National Title/Boston Globe

After winning two straight national championships with the Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Quarterback Stetson Bennett was taken by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round, day two of this year’s NFL Draft. Top brass for the Rams thought that teams looked too low on the QB, and passed on him because of his size. The Rams were happy that he fell to them, and they didn’t hesitate to pick him. The Blackshear, Georgia native and UGA alum, will play backup to UGA alum QB Matthew Stafford. Stafford never won a college title, but does have a Super Bowl ring just a couple years back.

As a walk-on to the Georgia program, Bennett transferred out of Georgia a couple of times and even worked in practice on the scout team impersonating Baker Mayfield for the 2018 Rose Bowl versus Oklahoma where Georgia won 54-48.

Coming in at 5’11, 190 lbs, Bennett was considered a player that just can’t be counted on, but once given that shot by Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart, Bennett has taken full charge and was all in. Bennett is good at calling the game and being the game manager on the field. I compare Bennett to soon to be Hall of Famer Drew Brees, who is 6’0 and 209 lbs. To be a good QB in the NFL, one has to be able to look pass and over the offensive linemen. That was considered Brees’s issue in which he worked pass that and won one Super Bowl and will end up being called to the Hall of Fame one day. If Bennett can catch on in the right offensive system, he could fall under the same path as Brees.

Time will only tell has the rest of Bennett’s story is written.
